'Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body.' (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
All sorts of stuff was going on in the Corinthian church. Lawsuits, disputes, sexual immorality. With regard to sex, it seems that some had fallen into the heresy that stated that what they did with their bodies was of no consequence as they were spiritual beings'. But God has redeemed and saved us - body and soul - all of us. There is no division between the two, especially when we recognise that our body is a home to God's Spirit. We are no longer our own. We are God's.
In my life, Lord, I can and so abuse my body through over-eating, under-exercising and not taking the time to rest and sleep. But my body is not my own. It is yours.
Prayer
Help me Lord to treat this body you have given me as your temple - treat it with reverence, devotion and awe. Not for my own sake or ends, but for you. All for you.
