First day at the Partnering to Prevail conference today. It was a long one, starting at 8am and finishing at 8pm. This morning, Randy Frazee (Teaching Pastor) walked is through a new focus on developing neighborhood communities that Willow is developing. It is quite a radical change for them and will be a major transition. He was excellent.
This afternoon, Gary Schwamlein (International Executive Director - Willow Creek Association) gave an overview of all the changes recently at Willow. New leadership, building, small groups strategy and teaching team, four new campuses - all in the last three years. Lots of change and lots of challenges. It was both hones and revealing and got me thinking about just how much change is healthy and at what pace. Very relevant for me and our church at this moment in our history.
Kindra Singer (Community Care) and others shared about Willow's care ministry. Amongst many other things, 1400 people gather every Monday night for various recovery and other support groups. It was really interesting to hear just how evangelically minded Willow is about all it does - including caring ministry,
All in all a great start. I'm tired, the head-cold is a little words - but I have some drugs now! Can't wait for tomorrow.
Hi Stu,
Your trip sounds amazing. Have been praying for you, Craig & Matt that you'll all come back refreshed, energised & challenged.
Say hi to Bill & Nancy for me!
