Are not the angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:14)
I've always been a bit iffy about angels. Talk of angels all seems a little X-files. Yes, I know the bible is full of references to angels - I never fail to be awe-struck by Isaiah's picture of the angelic host. This Advent we remember and celebrate again perhaps the most famous angelic visitation as a stunned Mary is told of her remarkable pregnancy. I believe it happened. I just struggle to believe angelic visitations happen today. That was until I heard Janet's story.
Janet was baptized in our church a few weeks ago. She shared her testimony of wanting to, but struggling to believe that God was real. One Sunday driving away from church she asked God for more; for more proof. The next day she was in a park with her kids she never visits when a woman she did not know came up to her and struck up a conversation. Eventually the woman told Janet that one day 'she would have a cup of tea with her in heaven.' The stranger then handed Janet a letter, after which the woman left. Janet began to read it in the car as she and the kids prepared to go home. It a letter written with God's voice; a love letter written by God to Janet using verses of scripture reassuring Janet of His lover for her. Janet had her proof.
Now, I don't know of this woman was a bonefide angel. She may well have been. But I do know she met the Hebrew definition of an angel. This woman served Janet as she led her into the inheritance of he salvation. I am not so iffy about angels.
