Here I am sitting in the airport lounge waiting for my flight to Sydney, then San Fransisco, and then finally Chicago. My first time to the U.S, the longest time I've been away from Sue and the kids - a big adventure awaits. I will be traveling with my great mates Craig Bailey (Senior Pastor - Aberfoyle Uniting Church) and Matt Sarre (Small Groups Pastor - Aberfoyle Uniting Church)
The reason for our trip is to attend the Partnering to Prevail conference at Willow Creek Church in Chicago Link to Willow A one-week leadership intensive, we will be joining 60 pastors from 10 different countries to be challenged and inspired by what Willow and its leaders have to offer. I know a number of the other Aussies who will be at the conference, including Ken Anderson. It will be wonderful to spend time with Ken over the next week.
Then we will go from Chicago to Atlanta to visit Northpoint, a church planted and lead by Andy Stanley Link to Northpoint. From their we head for L.A where we will spend time with pastors from Mosaic Church Link to Mosaic. We will also visit other churches and ministries as time permits. Basically we will be on a very long church crawl!
So, as I wait for my first flight I'm feeling a mixture of excitement, anticipation and some grief at being away from Sue and the kids for so long. I'm praying the whole time away will be on of profound learning that will serve me and the church I minister in well.
